55 High Street
Hāwera 4610
At 51m high, the Water Tower is the highest building in Hāwera by far, built tall to provide pressure for the water to be used to fight fires.
An earthquake hit soon after the tower was complete, causing it to lean before it was repaired, but it almost became Hāwera's own leaning tower to rival Piza.
The tower again almost met it's demise in 2001 when there was public consultation whether to demolish or restore the tower. Fotunately it was restored and still stands in all it's glory today.
